After the earthquake in Emilia Romagna in 2012 (and formerly L’Aquila) the need to improve conditions, and services, in tent camps set up by the civil protection became an important design cues. For instance the tent cities, that can restore some dignity to people affected by the earthquake.

The problem is the absence of furniture inside the tent cities, if not a folding bed.

Cardboard furniture design that can withstand some months in environment.

Brief

Brief

The Object must be:

 

  • Folding, to be mounted directly from the user and occupy only little space during transport;

 

  • Structurally resistant as it will not break after a few uses;

 

  • Recyclable, so that we can be easily disposed after the dismantling of the tent cities;

 

  • Social: Cross can be mounted even in company to stimulate sociability, but not only. Being made of cardboard, allows each child of the field ti customize their own,coloring it, creating special sharing moments particularly important in difficult times like this.

Cross is made of corrugated cardboard, 1 cm thick, triple layer. It is much thicker and much more resistant than common ones; moreover is generally used for packaging of large items, like refrigerators and scooters. The cardboard is cut with the Rotary die cutters, which are commonly used for large thick cuts.
